How do I know if my website has been hacked?

How do I know if my website has been hacked? The practical answer is to look for specific, checkable indicators rather than guess. A compromised website is usually visible to your visitors before it is visible to you. Google warning banners, injected spam pages and unexpected outbound mail are the reliable early signals.

Key takeaways

As of 24 October 2026: the service descriptions, prices and turnaround figures on this page are current.

What do the signs usually look like?

These are the indicators we check for. The presence of one is a prompt to look closer, not a diagnosis.

What do you actually do?

We take a forensic copy, identify the entry point, remove the web shells and persistence, verify the codebase against known good checksums, and fix the vulnerability that let it in. Delisting is the last step, not the first.

You get a written record of what was checked, what was found, and what was not found. That last part matters as much as the first two: it tells you which risks you can stop worrying about.

What can you do right now?

What does this usually cost, and how long does it take?

The work here is priced as a fixed fee with a stated band, agreed before anything starts, and delivered to a date you can plan around. Where the situation is more urgent than a scheduled engagement allows, tell us and it is handled differently.

What does this usually cost?

This is a fixed-fee piece of work with a published band and an agreed delivery date, not a day rate that drifts. If what you are dealing with cannot wait for a scheduled slot, say so when you get in touch and we will look at it differently.

What are the common questions about this problem?

How do I know if my website has been hacked?
Look for content you did not write, injected links or scripts in the source, files that appear in the file manager that you did not upload, a sudden drop in organic traffic, and search console warnings about malware. A compromised site usually shows all four, and often shows the injected links to search engines first.
Why is my website blacklisted by Google?
Usually because a shared hosting account, a plugin or a third-party script was compromised and served malware to every site on that server, or because the site itself was modified. Google Safe Browsing and Search Console both list the specific reason, and that list tells you whether the fix is on the site or on the host.
Can you remove a malware infection without losing my content?
Usually, yes. The site is backed up, the malicious files and the injected code are identified and removed, the entry point is closed, and the site is re-scanned before it is put back. A rebuild is reserved for cases where the site has been compromised for long enough that the codebase itself can no longer be trusted.
How long does a website malware removal take?
Most removals are completed within one to three working days, including the re-scan and the request for search engines to review the listing. The blacklist review itself is controlled by Google and is not something a provider can speed up.
