Which regulation applies in Malaysia?

The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and the Cyber Security Commission of Malaysia sit at the centre of the national framework, and the Personal Data Protection Commission runs the data side.

The Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854), gazetted on 26 June 2024 and in force from 26 August 2024, is the central instrument, alongside the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and the PDPA amendment in force from 2025.

Those instruments set the baseline a client has to meet. We test against that baseline and against the framework the client has chosen, and we report what we find in terms the client can act on. This is general guidance about which instruments are in force, not advice about how your organisation should comply with them.

How quickly can you start an engagement in Malaysia?
Most assessment engagements in Malaysia begin within 5 to 10 working days of a signed scope. For an active incident, retainer clients are engaged within 4 hours and non-retainer clients within 12, in your working hours.
Do you work with clients in Malaysia remotely?
Yes, and remote is the default. Most engagements are delivered remotely, which is why your location rarely limits what we can do for you. On-site visits are scheduled where an engagement needs physical access, a formal kickoff, or a site survey.
Which regulations apply to a business in Malaysia?
The answer depends on your sector, your size and where your data sits, and we confirm the instruments that bind your specific entity in the written scope before testing starts. This page is general guidance, not legal advice, and it does not replace advice from your own counsel.
Do you sign an NDA and a rules-of-engagement document?
Yes. Every engagement starts with a non-disclosure agreement and a rules-of-engagement document naming the systems, the dates, the permitted techniques and the contact on each side. Testing begins only after both are signed.
